Any time me or one of my research group find out something knew, or solve a problem that we’ve been working on. In research we often start things that we don’t know if we’re going to be able to solve and finish them, but we have a hunch that we will be able to! If you’re an engineer I think you find getting things to work exciting!

No two days are ever the same, each patient is different and will always throw unexpected reaction when they first hear after long term deafness or the reaction of a child when they hear for the very first time.

Techniques and implants are improving all the time, so there is still much to learn and much we don’t know. Also education non engineering colleagues of the new developments with electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve, MRI safety and what the new technology is about. Have to keep running to stay up to date of latest developments.

That is a very interesting question, I’m not going to pertend that I find every minute of my job exciting, like all jobs there are some boring tasks and that is true even of engineering. One of the points we discuss in our company a lot is the idea of an ‘elegant solution’. So while there are normally a lot of ways of doing something when you are designing, some them might be overly complex or not quite right. The thing that sets a design apart is normally that it is an elegant solution to the problem. An elegant solution is perhaps something that is both simple, easy to manufacture, cheap to create and solves the problem very well. These might not always be achieveable but trying to find an elegant solution can be very interesting and exciting and when you have creaeted it there is an enormous sense of self satistfaction.
