Recently writing academic papers. In a place such as Cambridge cycling naturally. But more interesting cycling pursuits on off road/mountain bike courses in Wales. Regularly trying not to kill myself or my family in ‘easy’ down hill courses in the Alps.

When you enjoy what you do, it can be difficult to separate your work-related interests from extra-curricular hobbies – which I think is a positive thing. So outside work I am involved with Christians in Science and Women in Engineering. I’m a STEM ambassador with STEMNET too. As I mentioned before, I love people too so I love spending time with friends and family, eating delicious food, going for a walk in The Peaks or travelling to a new place to explore. When I can, I love reading (ideally on the beach!), swimming and going to the gym.

I’m not sure you ever stop being an engineer! So over the summer holidays I’m quite looking forward to getting a chance to write papers and do some research myself – normally I’m supervising rather than getting hands on with the research myself. I’m looking forward to a day long workshop that I’m doing at the Royal Institution.

At weekends I like going running (for short runs!) and sometimes go to a boot camp, and have started doing road cycling, but indoors! My wife does a lot of things that she normally manages to get me into after a while. I do a fair bit of reading, mainly pop-science type books rather than fiction.
